You, Lily, are one of those great thinkers, who writes your message so poetically. I enjoy your articles because they help clarify and organize my thoughts on the assaults on logic and humanity. My only addition is that it sounds like and seems like these are inevitable results of Western society when in reality are they are driven by political parties and their puppet masters to gain control over the people and their thinking. The differing beliefs and thoughts of a large, distributed, diverse society could just as easily be used to continually improve society through collective intelligence as I described End Politics Now. But instead, they are manipulated to give more power and control to those who rule from behind the scenes as you have written about extensively. I understand the addiction to great power and wealth. However, it depresses and perplexes me that practically no one is willing to spend a few minutes exploring and supporting the first realistic solution because they are too busy doom scrolling on social media. It's hard to put the entire blame on the wolves when the sheep are so indifferent. If we are only willing to complain and read about the problem but not read about and support the solution, we are part of the problem.

I take your point; it is a crucial one. Solutions sometimes take a longer time to give birth to, and crucial to their birthing is to first comprehend in full what the problem is.

Brilliant and spot on analysis which I have shared with some key global thinkers I know. I am hosting a meeting with Iain McGilchrist on The Future of Humanity in London on Oct 26 and we will highlight these concerns - see more on Channel McGilchrist.

Thank you. And thank you for sharing and bringing attention to it. Much appreciated.

Well done.

One niggle for me; anarchy is not necessarily bad. It is a loaded term whose essence has been perverted and coopted by the main narrative as ‘bad’. This serves them well.

The title promised more actionable content. But academic soliloquy is nice too

These issues didn't just happen on their own as a natural consequence of progress or Western society. They have been carefully nurtured and driven by political parties to differentiate themselves to win elections to give more power and wealth to their puppet masters as Lily has written about in the past. If you want an actionable, realistic solution, check out the book End Politics Now on Amazon. Links are EndPoliticsNow.com.

Masterful guidance. I never realized that self promotion was the cure.

"...largely because it preys on guilt and fear rather than reason and debate."

This phrase captures the essence of the attack of those who deem themselves 'intellectual' and better than the rest who are "the little people". Their attack on our commonly accepted basic moral values had an initial degree os success because, being busy navigating life, few have had the time to study the human history of development of those moral values. We accept them as correct in our gut because they align with our inherent sense of good and evil. Intellectuals attack precisely by claiming our morals are inherently corrupt using verbiage designed create guilt and unease. It takes a period of review to right our sense of ourselves to reestablish that we were acting decently all along and not the evil doers they accused.

Intellectuals have always been isolated in their own bubble. They typically have been on the fringes of society as poets and artists trying to scratch their way towards the center believing it their rightful place. The Nat Ins Health has a layman's definition: "Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. People with schizophrenia may seem like they have lost touch with reality, which can be distressing for them and for their family and friends."

These are not stupid people for the most part. They however are unable to connect to basic moral values of being human and they feel like outcasts. They want to rearrange power in society to support themselves as they see themselves. This is what is occurring today. They are few but loud and accuse the rest of us as misguided but it is truly they who are missing vital human traits to connect with the rest. It is called psychopathy. Those who seem closest to normal but suffer from missing basic connections are called sociopaths. All the evil in the world comes from smart sociopaths. Cleckley's "The Mask of Sanity" should be taught in high school, retaught in universities and then retaught again throughout life. Like the 1st and 2nd Amendments to the US Constitution we should add a new Amendment 2b. The Founders recognized the need for self-defense against tyranny but in a less organized and less technological society the right to bear personal weapons sufficed. Today, with the tools at hand for despotic behavior, we need to up our defenses with self-education of psychological defense on an individual basis. Individual safety can never be left to others. Individual safety can only reside in the protections that knowledge provides individuals who individually can identify and act on the threat of this personalty in a knowledge-based society.

That does make sense.

Good catch.

Boddom has a track ~ "Mask of Sanity" too.

But seriously, Cleckley's been referred to quite a bit lately. 🤔

Who is Boddom? Few have written about the issue in depth as Cleckley and Hare. Always interested in other sources but few and far between.

Children of [Bodom], actually. Excuse my recollection that was hastily misspelled and description was unclarified:

The track is from the metal band named after the lead singer/guitar of Children of Bodom.

Mask of Sanity, the track, describes the life of a serial killer... That which is pertaining to the matters of what is appropriate for the psychopaths that have reigned supreme over civilization for the past 4,500 years.

History and astute authors have shown us that Western Civilization has always been doomed to fail, as have all other great civilizations. Mostly the causes are the same; greed and warmongering. We just are lucky enough to be alive to watch the final throes of this civilization; the only thing we don't know and can't predict is the timing.

What I saw coming to full bloom during covid was a destruction of a primordial social bonding system. I liken it to the silverbacks in lower primates (usually dominant male.) But in the very complex hominids both genders serve as a type of silverback, functioning to give guidance and sound cautions. That seemed to evaporate and otherwise brilliant people not only recklessly took the jab, but rolled up the sleeves of their children. That’s terrifying to me.

For some reason, it made me think of *Lord of the Flies* where a group of shipwrecked boys devolve into violent chaos in the absence of morally-based leadership, and the experience that comes with age. We can see evidence of this in the urban violence of Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and Defund the Police, etc.

Great essay. Very thought-provoking!
