Unfortunately, we're guilty of sleep-walking into the situation where our education system has been hijacked and gradually transformed into a "what to think" indoctrination factory rather than a "how to think" development resource. It will require all the grit, resilience, resourcefulness, patience and other qualities you identified in successful Boomers and Gen-Xers to build again the teaching resources we older generations benefited from.

I thought public education had been weaponized against the highest potential of the students and the society since it was first set up. Another great article! Here are a few thoughts. We shouldn't be surprised that government departments, including education, are used for political purposes as the executives over every level of federal departments and agencies are political appointments chosen by the political party in control. It's political parties who control the government that allow the power elite to control the government for their own purposes.

We should not be surprised that those with an agenda and a plan are triumphing over the rest of us who are not united with a common cause and focus such as class domination and are more worried about our comfort than putting forth the effort to fix the system.

When I was young, the emphasis was on your personal responsibility to survive and then to contribute to society for future generations. Now, the emphasis is on comfort and convenience and the entitlement of being sustained by society. That translates into being dependent on the older middle class. Obviously, that's not sustainable. But then, it wasn't designed to be sustainable, was it has Lily pointed out.

The only answer I know of to this dilemma is to stop control of the government by political parties based on ideology which is just a tool to increase the control, power, and wealth of the power elite. That isn't anything new. It has been going on since the first political party was created a year after the first election under the Constitution.

The only way I know to do that is through the collective power of the people, which is why I designed a Collaborative Democracy. It uses a new process that focuses the collective intelligence of the people on solving problems rather than voting one's biases and indoctrinations. Could it actually work? Technically yes. The major parts of it have been used successfully around the world. But not without you.

Thank you for another great article as usual! The education system has certainly been the main weapon used in transitioning the culture of the United States from one of individual independence to that of collective dependence.

I have come to believe that most organizations that use acronyms are circumspect. The NEA seems to be right up there with the WEF, WHO, and CDC but even worse because they are directly responsible for the education of our children. sabrinalabow.substack.com

Teachers apparently have the 'Inner light"- that is the special Gnosis of critical theory. (there is it is said common sense, traditional academic knowledge and then critical theory episteme) The object is to make students activists with a life long commitment to social justice and critical theory, which is the objective- not education- in the student teachers' hand book "Is everyone Really Equal" by Diangelo and Sensoy. It seems reminiscent to Paulo Freire's Marxist education ideas about raising the critical consciousness of students.
