As I read this it suddenly occurred to me why owning nothing is appealing to some. Owning nothing means one has given up personal choice to make a permanent decision of spending one's earnings. It is a decision-less life to rent, not own. It is a lack of permanence. It is also a complete lack of commitment and without personal decision making. No personal responsibility for anything. It means no long-term personal relationships, especially a life partner which is something that has proven an anchor for most. It may work for the sociopath who cannot make such connections with others but for the other 95% it is that connection which is the intangible vital substance that makes life worthwhile. 'Own nothing and be happy' is suicide in my opinion.

And the power elite? They will live like kings with all of the wealth, privacy, and power of choice while everyone else will get just the minimum to survive. Why would you need to elect rulers in such a scenario? The uniparty will select them for you even more than they do now. A revolution? That can only happen if 1) it exists in the minds of the people and 2) it is possible technologically, which it won't be. As populations decline, when the perfect number of sheep exist to support the power elite including robotics, they will probably produce new sheep through medical technology as needed to maintain the perfect number. Utopia!--well, for the elite anyway. It seems China is leading the way to this future and is the perfect socialist model they are following.

Fascinating. Because, back in the olden days, Mom and Dad rented the telephone, most people did, part of your phone bill from the Bell system was a monthly rental charge, and my vintage Western Electric telephones say "property of Bell Atlantic." So, renting a telephone is not a new idea. There have been "rent to own" appliance dealers for ages, too. Of course by the time you actually own the appliance, you've basically financed it at an exorbitant rate, and it's on its last legs.

Somehow her views will turn to a nightmare socialist utilitarianism answer inherent in Scientism. The Fabians were on track for a euthanasia programe by way of George Bernard Shaw. Vide clip:
