Great essay about our addiction to the “smart phone.” I think you hit all the high notes, most of which I am guilty as charged, but the one I don’t believe you mentioned is that a lot of workplaces have become 24/7 “sweat shops” with the expectation of management and employees to always be available by phone/email/text, day or night, during vacations, while eating dinner, etc. - always “on call.” The sad thing is that it doesn’t stop when you retire, in fact, it may become worse, because now you don’t work, so there is no excuse to decline their every whim.
I agree that sometimes it’s good to take a long walk without your phone and without earbuds, and enjoy the sounds of nature.
Great article Lily. Though a sad commentary about society. All these things.. social media, convenience apps, relaxation apps, eating and diet apps, gambling apps all designed for the end goal of a digital identity. Soon it will be a requirement in order to use these things that you are digitally verified, which as we here all know will be tied to your money, health ,in fact your whole existence. Which will be constantly AI monitored and evaluated for compliance with the latest governing regulations. The sad reality is people won’t even blink an eye while accepting their digital identity. We are all pretty much digitally tethered already with paperless billing, online banking and payment processing for convenience purposes all by design to steer us into the digital pen. A slow roll, sped up with endless apps and social media. There are a few “freedom fighters” out there screaming from the rooftops that digital ID is the hill to die on, sign the petition now lol. The petition is nothing more than your name on the government dissident watch list for future de-banking operations and targeting as we are all too familiar with here in the arctic gulag of Canada. The only way this is ever going to end would be for everyone to ditch their smartphones which will never happen. The hook was set and as you so astutely wrote, people can’t even sit down to eat dinner without checking their phones every minute. Everyone has already checked out, swallowed by the digital beast, craving more of it every day. The plan has been in place for decades and nobody even noticed.
Nice to see you back writing Lily, and a killer of an article at that!
From a separate blog I started listening to a speech by Aldus Huxley, then with your article I recall how David Foster Wallace was remembered recently. He may be my generation’s John the Savage. Ultimately reality will look more like Simon Stalenhag’s “The Electric State”.
The prophets writings were on the subway walls I guess. I added turning off technology after 9pm to cutting alcohol and nicotine for 3 months and kinda have failed at all of it, but realized I hadn’t taken screen addiction as seriously as the first 2. After 2 days of not letting my technology into my room I had what I could describe as a massive panic attack I could only resolve with tobacco and Cool Jazz.
Feeling better today, but I admit I hadn’t thought of screen addiction as seriously until then.
You're not alone. I too am sick of being the weird one that puts his phone away at dinner, always keeps it on silent, and never uses the speaker function in public.
I'm not in any of these traps. My phone doesn't use me; I use my phone. The only notifications I get are for calls and texts.
I've got it extremely buttoned down, but it's taken a while to get there. Most people live in notification hell.
I'm currently staying in a place with a lot of TV worshippers, and I happily turn off the TV when no one is watching. But if someone catches me doing that, you'd better believe they say something about it. "Why'd you turn the TV off?!" It upsets people when you turn off their God.
None of what you mention is lost on me. I'm right there with you. Asking myself all the time what we can do about it. Thanks for the post.
The population is weak and no longer cares about facts. Even doctors and researchers care nothing about facts and spew out the nonsense of associations found in their cherry picked observational nonsense.
None of it is scientific. It's academia posing as science. Peer reviewed nonsense where academics supersedes real science. Take a deep dive into the historical record on how far back the smoking issue goes centuries before they realized tobacco was a monster; You'll find the real reason for tobacco Nazis.
It's political and it's an ideology that centers on the chosen people who should not be smoking. The idea that smoking is a leading risk factor for cancer is highly overstated and the Japanese paradox shows this in a real world way. There are other cultures where this paradox exists. There is no single risk factor that can explain cancer. Cancer doesn't work that way. Diseases don't work that way. Disease is always multifaceted.
Cancer is over 200 different diseases. Cancer wasn't even a blip on the radar screen in the earlier part of the 20th century and people have been smoking for centuries. Everything is about politics and control of you lizard brain. It's about the ideology coming from the real enemy who only believes in the idea of the chosen people. The chosen people don't smoke, drink, or intermingle with outsiders. It's the culture of purity. It's not about health, or making you well. It's about depopulation through poison food, water and the pharmaceutical industry.
In June of 2019 my most cherished loved one looked me in the eyes, mustering great sincerity and genuine conviction and proclaimed, "Dad, do not worry. Ai is the greatest technological advance known to man. What we are building with Ai is going to be Utopia. Its True and we are making it possible."
I responded, "Oh contrare my dear brilliant son. It is not Utopia you are building it is a future Earth stripped of all resources, both human and otherwise. A Distopian world will be the result of the ultimate algorithm you worship, just as the scientists before you in the 1940's tickled the Dragon's Tail and birthed the power to become the destroyers of worlds."
Oh my dear Lily, you are such a joy to write so elequently all that has been troubling me for so long now. Thank you!
I predict this is how it goes, soon...
Yes, its the Ultimate Enslavement Casino, all are being ushered into, in all the nefarious ways you describe. Ai is just the System of control, once the Mega System is complete and in place, and the vast percentage of the population lives by it, in the Casino of All Casinos, the doors to the New Utopia Casino will be permanently shut, bolted, welded closed, by Digital ID compliance. No choices, no alternatives, no freedom, no sovereignty. The Ultimate Gotcha.
What is to be done?
Dead or Enslaved? That's the endgame they're playing in their War of All Wars launched in 2019.
I did not consent - No mask, no vaxx, no consent to their desire to kill and enslave.
We are now staring down the barrel of Their biggest gun.
Do not Consent. Repeat after me...
I Am Not A QR Code. I Am Not A Bar Code!!
We are in a War the likes of which humankind has never known.
If one chooses to resist, to fight IT, we must be willing to fight like we are already dead.
Great article. Neuroplasticity is a miraculous thing, but it can be a devolution machine, as well. You mentioned rewiring the brain. Yes, you're so right--that is a thing. I saw it personally with four foster kids (siblings) who were sexually abused as children (aged 2-6). When an adult light is turned on before it's ready, the brain rewires to accommodate, but there are none of the side-rails that a normal maturing progression provides. Data needs those side-rails, because data can be received passively between the lines delivered by profiteers.
You are not alone Lily. However, there are scarcely few people (that I know about) on this "frequency". I think that I am, but I am an old guy (60yrs), and I only know of a handful of other people with similar thoughts and ideas. I am exhausted by it; your words bring that back to me (the exhaustion is always in the background).
I want to talk about developing emotional maturity and balancing the mind with the will to develop heart where we will regain our magic. I want to talk about how the wisdom of martial arts integrated into our daily lives can help us avoid confrontation and violence; and how that can lead to more peaceful lives where we have more respectful and meaningful interactions. I want to talk about herbal (TCM) medicine and living healthy without big pharma interventions.
I want to talk about, you grab the mic and sing, you grab a guitar, you man the keys, I'll grab my sticks, and we'll make music for a while. I want to talk about the deeper meaning behind the words of Jimi Hendrix. I want to talk about a New Rising Sun. I want to talk about how we are the people we've been waiting for. I want to talk about a higher vibration. I want to talk about putting the hell we've manifested back into its Right Place.
Nobody is interested. Nobody cares. It's not the trending topic. It sounds too weird. It sounds too much like people have to start with themselves; that they have to find the answers inwardly, not online. It sounds too hippy, or whatever the hell it is. It is too much or not enough.
You are bringing forth ancient wisdom Lily. "Ancient" here in the good and wise way. You and I personally will likely never intersect outside of this forum, and that's ok. But we're also part of what has been lost, and what needs to be reclaimed unless people are going to surrender to this hell on Earth. I'm old enough to remember how it was. I will never forget. My heart is broken over what we have lost. 💞
Lately I've been wondering if it's me, or if everyone is so forgetful.
So many of my friends forget to reply to a message, forget they suggested to meet up at a cafe this week, forget they were supposed to send me a link to an essay they read.
The common denominator in all this, is me. Many times I pondered if I'm not too pushy; that people just "forgot" because they don't actually want to meet up.
I highly doubt it. They genuinely feel bad about about forgetting their promise. Like you wrote here, everyone gets distracted from what they were supposed to do.
Keep firing these poignant missives and more will surely join us, although I contend that The Great Awakening has not arrived until the demonically toxic C19 bioweapon becomes banned.
Best of luck to all, especially those willing to fight the damn digital bondage planned for us.

Great article about how the thinning of herd is being accomplished.
Seeing sunrise every morning and sunset every evening for 10-15 minutes without your glasses is a good place to start.

On target as usual Lily. Good wake-up call for me personally.

Wonderful article. I would add, choose creativity over convenience, challenge over entertainment, effort over consumption.

You’re so Dark Lily yet so beautiful (I think). Definitely not the run of the mill American Woman now are you. ☺️

You're definitely not alone Lily.
