My Monday morning coffee got cold while reading this brilliant commentary. I'm so happy to have learned I'm not the only one who's batshit crazy.

The wonderfully tragithing about our predicament is we can't actually stop it and redirect any of the resources to stuff that would make humanity or life or earth better. I just invented a word: tragithing. I'm human, I can do that. These LMs are just pathetic in this sense.

Unfortunately the rotten foundation of the entire AI industry is tied to the rotten foundation of what we call business and the rotten foundation of economics and the rotten and dishonest social milieu. The solution (truth) would undermine the power undergirding relationships (when in doubt, just Foucault it).

Maybe Nick Land is not on the wrong track. His content and motivations are dodgy, but a bit like in the card game Machiavelli (it's atrocious: requires ingenuity instead of intelligence), the more we create instability in the simulacra, the higher the probability it goes to shit.

Like, the pernicious element you identify is the need to keep the dream alive so the money keeps flowing. Money is a fucking illusion borne out of people grasping at this reality so they can lord their power. "On a long enough timeline we all die" (or similar). History is replete with maniacs buried with their possessions (including humans) to be taken to their next place. Morons.

But realistically the entire premise of our civilization is based on lies. So it's only fitting we create stochastic parrots. And their large scale roll out will create a cascade system failure eventually, because black swan probability says this is inevitable.

Incidentally, I suspect the minority of humans who do not consume AI slop or use it in our work will have an enormous comparative advantage compared to those who do.

Great essay! I'm gonna make myself another coffee 😎

AI is a fiat currency sponge. Do not “invest” in this latest scam.

The human brain is analog and our computers are mostly digital. What could go wrong?

Focus on sunlight, magnetism and coherent water especially in your cells.
