At 2am this very morning I finished scanning the files the Hungarian State Security Archives had on me. I got the 300 pages into my hands (along the 142 pages they had on my father) eight months ago.

At 2am this very morning I finished scanning the files the Hungarian State Security Archives had on me. I got the 300 pages into my hands (along the 142 pages they had on my father) eight months ago.
My first browse though was so disappointing and depressing that I had it sitting on my shelf until two days ago when I finally started dealing with it. I will still have to do some work on it as about a third of the pages are very poor-quality copies and I need to enhance them to make them readable.
What was and still is so depressing about them is what’s missing from these files. I will write about this a lot more, my only point in mentioning it is to show how personal my agreement with your post is.
The most important things I learned or confirmed are these:
• No prosecutor, judge, false witness, politician or bureaucrat, policeman or informant was ever punished for their crimes committed under the protective mantle of the state.
• The state will never take responsibility for its mistakes. If discovered, they will just make them disappear into a memory hole.
• All power corrupts, in direct proportion with its degree.
• What makes people in power so dangerous is not so much their power, as their banal, dilettante stupidity. For those with eyes to see, the emperor is always naked.
I absolutely agree with you that the only way out is simply walking away in as many ways as we can possibly find.

I would suggest that corruption is endemic to human society. The Bible story calls it "original sin". Multiple systems have been tried throughout history to limit this dark side of human nature. That we need a rebalance is obvious. The price we are all going to pay is going to be massive. That said, I would also suggest that the fallacy of demanding perfect solutions instead of (possibly) sustainable solutions is at play in your interesting essay.

Taking some of this one-step further, the Fed is a puppet tribe of truly stupid people run by those raping the taxpayer by rampant spending. We need the rest of us to turn up our sensitivities and root them out at every level.
