I think this is one of the most threatening topics for the future of humankind, even more so than those dastardly banks!

Having watched an umber of AI commentators and developers in the past month it is very clear that the technology is developing at an increasing pace. A few years ago I listened to some "expert" saying it would be over a decade before AI became a meaningful threat. From the interviews I have heard more recently the advancement in AI is picking up pace. If anyone is following the progress of GPT3 and the soon to be issued GPT4 and how they can mimic specific human responses you will understand what I am getting at. I have a feeling that by the time we get to GPT6 or 7 you will be incapable of knowing whether any form of commentary was generated by a human or a machine.

That ties directly to the AI that will be used in military applications. There will be no international agreement on this IMO. We are witnessing the birth of SKYNET like systems today and expect to be able to buy stock in Cyberdine Systems by 2030 (if you are younger than 30 look 'em up).

Finally, the development of hypersonic missiles is a transformational war weapon and the USA is not in the lead here. The key point about these missiles is the potential change to the balance of power they can bring. Imagine a US Naval Fleet Aircraft Carrier being attacked by some weaponry by a hostile force (say China or Russia). That Carrier and its escort can probably defend themselves against half a dozen missiles and quite possibly even a dozen of them...... but 20?.....30? It takes only one to get through and you immediately render Air Craft Carriers obsolete for their original intent.

The world is already full of financial Instruments of mass destruction. We already have several nations with nuclear weapons of mass destruction. The capability to produce engineered viral weapons of mass destruction that are selective in their targeting is underway. The development of AI to increase remote killing power is underway. The production and development of hypersonic missiles are already here and being constantly enhanced.

It's only a matter of time folks...... This simply spurs me on to get to see the best Roman and Greek ruins as quickly as possible before the opportunity ends. It also pushes me to start drinking only 20+ year old malt whiskies instead of the 12 - 16 year old stuff, even if they are triple the price!!!

Well, I guess we better enjoy those ancient ruins and top-shelf whiskey while we still can! But on a serious note, I agree that the rapid advancement of AI and military technology is a cause for concern. Who knows, maybe we'll be toasting our drinks with our new robot overlords in the not-so-distant future! 😂

I love your articles but this one is slightly off the mark. There isn't such a thing as a "nuclear weapon".
