Isaac Asimov, who wrote the SiFi series, "The Foundation" about a religious cult of mathematicians operating world government with 1,000yr predictions (1942-1950), and Harry Markowitz, who introduced Modern Portfolio Theory (1952), a mathematical model dominant today for investing made key contributions to this evolution.
The process progressed with some simply trying to grasp a rapidly changing environment with rapidly advancing technology while others, the elite, sought to create positions of power and wealth at the expense of others.
The issue, which has been with us for all time. has always been those who see other humans as cogs-in-the-machine of the social system. They believe they can categorize human behavior with simple terms and manipulate it for personal profit. They are few but very loud. The rest of us see individual innovation that is the source of all progress and something that operates via serendipity, not at all prone to manipulation and something to be respected, honored and never to be directed for fear of squashing it.
In other words, most of us honor free speech which is the source of innovation. The few who think they can parse innovation for their own benefit suppress innovation.

This is an incre3dible insight into what is going on in our world today. I just watched a 3 hour YouTube video on The Money Masters giving a history of the rise of banking power over the centuries - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB-pdPaQNKA - and this along with your piece make me wonder what possible means there is to stop this power grab of the world? I can only believe in the end that much of what is now being achieved is because we are lacking a strong spiritual base from which to react strongly against the imposition of such shallow values. The people must believe in themselves and their own self worth if any resistance at all is possible. I am working on a book at present and the more I follow this reasoning the more it seems to offer a means for resistance, not by the many but by the thinking 20%. That 20% however is far greater in numbers and ingenuity the the .01%, no matter how powerful they believe themselves to be. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Their biggest problem will always be their ability to work together consistently and history shows this is always the case. They carry the seeds of their own self-destruction within their own numbers. Sadly it will be bloody and with modern technology could destroy us all in the process. Sigh!
