I’m just not sure that people realize that this world we’re living in is like nothing that has come before it. The things we’ve “achieved” with technology are truly mind boggling. I was brought to this excellent essay by James Delingpole on twitter. I realise I'm late commenting but nothing has happened since it was published to dispel its 'great monetary cycle' core idea.
I just don't get it with these guys, I must admit. I mean, don't they ever get tired? Suffer from minor, pesky ailments like piles or arthritis? I quizzed her about her ideas (folks had already started 'dropping like flies' in Wuhan by this time). She said that 2020 was the start of a new cycle in the Chinese horoscope, the year of the Metal Rat. "It is the year when everything stops," she said, "like a knife through butter!", dramatically performing a karate chop on her desk. Well, she wasn't wrong! Compare and contrast with Mao's Great Leap Backwards, er, Forwards, when the pesky sparrows were killed in the 4 pests campaign and millions of peasants died of hunger in the subsequent famines. That was 1960 - 2/3. Blimey.

My own route was mainly a mixture of financial and history. I was greatly assisted by James Corbett (corbettreport.com) and Richard Andrew Groves' "Peace Revolution" podcast, which I thoroughly recommend.
A small tweak I would suggest for your excellent article would be to make clear to anyone who thinks that these cycles (short or long) are in some way "natural", that that is not the case: they are engineered.

Does the cycle happen after 60-80 years of bad behavior, or does it happen within 15 years for instance? Could it be that what happens is similar to a group of robbers breaking into a big hall with safe deposit boxes every 60-80 years claiming that once they are out of the hall the stolen goods belong to them? Do we "need" bank bankruptcies or inflation and the other bad things when we could just get back the stolen goods and destroy the tools of the robbers (like all the governments occupying our nation states)? Maybe people who experience the end of a cycle think about these things and wouldn't allow another such robbery, so they have to be dead or very old, therefore the cycle ist 60-80 years?
